The Basenji is a sturdy little breed, and when compared to other purebred breeds has few health problems. This section is a summary and introduction to some of the more prevalent diseases.
It should be stressed that some of the following diseases have not been diagnosed among Basenjis in Australia, but it is advisable to be aware that they can and have occurred in Basenjis.
If your Basenji has any serious health problem, please ensure you contact the breeder of your puppy and the Basenji Club of Victoria Inc. Breeders need to be informed of any serious health problems in order to assess future breeding programs and to determine where further research is necessary.
