HOW DO I FIND A PUPPY?

We suggest that you contact a few breeders. Use the link at the bottom of this page for the BCOV Breeder Referral Page if you are in Australia or alternately contact the Secretary of your local Basenji Club and ask for a list of Basenji Breeders. Contact the breeders, ask any questions you may have and be prepared to answer any of their questions as well and visit their homes. See how their dogs are cared for. Are they clean, friendly and out-going? Do they hide from you? Do they growl at you? These are important considerations when looking for a family pet.

We also suggest that you go to a couple of local dog shows and introduce yourself to any Basenji breeders attending the show. Breeders usually love talking about their dogs and you can learn alot about the breed in this way to see if they could be a suitable match for your circumstances.

Basenjis only have their puppies once a year, usually in the winter, therefore you may have to wait a while for a puppy. Rest assured that the wait will be well worth it if you purchase your puppy from a reputable breeder.
Note: NEVER buy a Basenji puppy from a Pet Shop.
